Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho tips cap to Arsenal, ‘more than ready’ for title
Mourinho and Wenger have a long-standing feud, which peaked when the Chelsea boss called the Frenchman a “specialist in failure” last season.
The Chelsea captain has enjoyed a resurgence in his career since Mourinho returned to the club in 2013 for his second spell at the club with the central defender helping Chelsea claim the Premier League and League Cup last season.
Wenger also refused to rule out any more new arrivals at the Emirates this summer, with Petr Cech the only addition to date.
He continued: “
We spend when we think we have to spend and don’t listen too much to what people have to say.
I’m emotional and this game doesn’t allow us to make lots of mistakes because we are punished for that”.
Chelsea’s own investment in that time amounts to nearly £235million.
Certainly Arsenal fans would have been watching Hazard’s progress with some jealousy having seen their side struggle to compete in terms of the title race in recent seasons.
Although Wenger conceded Arsenal’s pre-season has been shorter than in previous years, he said he was pleased with how productive it had been.
“I think Eden is the best player in our country”.
“Is this Arsenal’s best chance of winning the Premier League for years?”
“[If they get away with the idea that they don’t spend big money?] This is the easiest thing to do – I don’t do it”. He will get games here.’.
During a window where Chelsea have been unusually quiet – signing just Radamel Falcao on loan, former Stoke City goalie Asmir Begovic and Brazilian youngster Nathan – Mourinho has accused Chelsea’s rivals of trying to buy the title.
On comparing the 24-year-old Hazard with Lionel Messi and Ronaldo, Mourinho added: ‘Obviously it depends on the season they have.
“Whether you’re a player or manager, he does his groundwork”.
“I think they are the best team in the world, especially when the front three are on form”.
“We are used to playing together, and the 2012-13 year was very good for Atletico when we scored a lot of goals”.
However Mourinho believes that Wenger’s side can challenge for the title this season on the back of their spending over the last two years.
