Chelsea’s Mourinho abandons hope of top four finish
Leicester City remained on top of the 2015-16 English Premier League standings after scoring an impressive 2-1 victory against Chelsea on Monday at King Power Stadium.
He said: “A relegation battle?”
The Chelsea boss said in his post-match press conference: “I want to be [here] clearly. Let me achieve 40 points and then I will think about the next goal”.
“They are good players, but far too many of them are under-performing and they have been for a while”, he told Sky Sports.
Mahrez created Vardy’s 15th goal of the season with a wonderful cross on 34 minutes.
“They have to look to Sunderland and Watford and say we are at the same level as you are”.
Algeria global Mahrez curled in a stunning second from the edge of the area three minutes into the second half to put Leicester, continuing a remarkable turnaround after escaping relegation last season, on 35 points, two clear of Arsenal.
Dutchman Hiddink has already hinted he would be interested in replacing Mourinho until the end of the season in what would be a similar scenario to when the 69-year-old last took caretaker charge of Chelsea in February 2009 and finished the season as an FA Cup victor.
“We must always be at the top of our games, even when it’s not and not the behaviour that we are seeing right now from every Chelsea player”.
“All last season I did the phenomenal work that I brought them to a level that is not their level, is more than they really are”.
The BBC Match of the Day (MOTD) presenter and former England and Tottenham striker made the announcement on Tweeter on Tuesday morning (Singapore time), soon after Leicester had beaten defending champions Chelsea 2-1. “All the players believe in each other and help each other, only in this way you can win against the champions”, Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri said. I identified four movements where Leicester score a lot of their goals and, in two of the four situations I identified, they scored their goals.
“I don’t know what is the injury with Hazard”, admitted Mourinho.
Substitute Loic Remy pulled one back for the visitors with 13 minutes left. “We need five more points”.
“Nobody believes it because we were champions past year”.
