Chelsea sinks to new low as Bournemouth stuns champions
Here is a video of the full interview.
“In this game we are playing with the same players in the last three games”, Pellegrini said, bemoaning injuries to Vincent Kompany, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero. Especially in the second-half we did more than enough to win the game. “These are big chances that we have to score”.
“It was a penalty and the goal is offside, but the referee made a mistake and the linesman made another mistake”, Mourinho added.
Which incident are you referring to with the referee?
“I think it was very considerate of Chelsea to swap sides with Leicester this season”. But that is part of the game. We had a couple of shots and chances, but in the second half we were much more aggressive.
“We had a lot of chances and half-chances and we couldn’t touch the ball, which is disappointing because with all these crosses from the right side, you have to touch the ball in the face of the goal, then it is no chance for the ‘keeper”, Mourinho said.
“We tried in the period where we were stronger but this is the moment when they scored the goal and with five minutes to go with a team that was defending, some people call it intelligent, some people call it lack of play. They were taking time, calling for the medical department and drinking water like it is basketball time out”.
But it could have been even worse, with Winston Reid hitting the post with a header for West Ham and Mauro Zarate shooting wastefully wide from Andy Carroll’s lay-off early in the second half. It was not because of Diego. So all I would say is: “‘Let’s think about winning the next game and forget about setting targets.’ To fix targets is impossible with our inconsistency”.
“I am concerned obviously”.
Mourinho further explained that he has to put this weekend’s defeat behind him and prepare well for their last champions league group game against Porto next Wednesday.
It was Chelsea’s fourth home defeat of a dismal campaign, while Bournemouth were left to celebrate a famous result that lifted them out of the bottom three.
“That’s been the problem with Chelsea this season, it’s been like a soap opera”, said Redknapp, also prior to kick-off. To get in the top four? You can not behave like that, I don’t care who you are, it’s so disrespectful to the manager and it sets the wrong example to all those players on the bench. There is no chance that Chelsea will be fighting relegation. We come here and I don’t think we expect anything out of these games so we have done great. I know the goal was empty but that one was hard. I can not cry because it’s not my style.
Mourinho was scathing in his criticism of his some of his Chelsea players, although he insisted he was not disappointed with the performance, only the result.
Do you feel you’re all in this together – the players with you? Problems with the captain, problems with Costa, but you feel this statement [is one] he had to make. You realise that was an individual moment where the player did better than he is doing.
“When you get good momentum and good consecutive results, it’s because you have stability in performances”.
