Chelsea To Sign Portuguese International Next Week, Selling Club Confirms
In a rather surprising revelation, Dinamo Zagreb manager Zlatko Kranjcar has claimed that his 33-year-old Portuguese goalkeeper and Euro 2016 victor Eduardo will be joining Chelsea after the second leg of the Champions League’s playoff round against Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.
And it seems that Chelsea are closing in on a replacement for him in the shape of Eduardo.
Antonio Conte is in the market for a new backup goalkeeper after deciding not to re-sign Italian veteran Marco Amelia last summer, while youngster Jamal Blackman joined League Two side Wycombe Wanderers on loan to gain first-team experience earlier this week.
It has come to light recently that the Blues are looking for a goalkeeper with Diego Lopez being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge but according to Kranjcar, it’s not Lopez but Eduardo who will be joining the Blues.
“I think so. Eduardo received a great honor to go to a big club like Chelsea. Even impressive. But the situation is that he is leaving, may he have all the good luck in the big club”.
Eduardo would presumably continue his role as deputy with rumours linking current second choice Blues stopper Asmir Begovic is set to leave the club.
The 33-year-old would become Chelsea’s third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante from Marseille and Leicester City respectively.
Eduardo was a member of Portugal’s national team squad during Euro 2016, collecting the winner’s medal without playing a single minute in the competition.
