Chelsea Transfer News: Danny Rose Approach Made Amid Baba Rahman Rumours
Chelsea are considering whether to make one of the most surprising moves of the summer so far, after the Independent reported that they were interested in making a £15m bid for Tottenham’s Danny Rose.
Jose Mourinho has been searching for a left-back all summer when it became clear that Filipe Luis would not be happy in a reserve role – the Brazilian was sold back to Atletico Madrid last week.
Abdul Baba Rahman, the Ghana worldwide now at German club Augsburg, remains a serious option for Chelsea.
Even if a deal was agreed, I’d also question the logic of Rose moving to Chelsea as he wouldn’t be first choice under Mourinho and would simply play back-up to Cesar Azpilicueta.
And while Baba Rahman of Augsburg and Galatasaray’s Alex Telles have been linked (via Independent), it appears that Mourinho has decided to look much closer to home.
Although Rose is a solid full-back who would add to Chelsea’s homegrown quote, Blues fans were, in general, pretty unimpressed with the speculation.
Rose, 25, was described as the best English left-back in the league last season by his Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino but has never won a full cap despite call-ups to Roy Hodgson’s squad.
But they would surely be tempted by an offer of £15 million, although Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has seemingly not yet come forward with an asking price.
