Chelsea vs. Manchester United: Score and Reaction from 2017 FA Cup
Jose Mourinho has spoken of the “position of privilege” enjoyed by Antonio Conte during his first season at Chelsea as the Manchester United manager prepares to face his table-topping former club in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
“I think the manager has adapted to United traditions – and he’s admitted that himself”, said Carrick, whose United are sixth in the Premier League, three points adrift of the Champions League spots.
Chelsea dominated from there and Kante netted the eventual victor from long-range soon after half-time to inflict a second defeat for Jose Mourinho’s men this season at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Conte said: “We played today against a really strong team and they were unbeaten in the league from the game we played at Stamford Bridge (Chelsea’s 4-0 win in October)”. He even pointed to how they shackled Chelsea’s centre-halves.
“I am focused on Man United and I know the work I did there, I know what I did but I am the kind of guy that I move and have no regrets and I am not looking for bad feelings at all”. “He was fouled and the referee doesn’t give a booking”, Mourinho said.
Antonio Conte is confident his players can hold off the challengers in the chasing pack and win the Premier League. I think everyone saw this. “It’s one win for us and one win for them (this season), for sure it will be an exciting game for the people and our fans”. In a fractious affair, the pattern of the game was decided in the 35 minute when Ander Herrera was sent off by referee Michael Oliver for two bookable offences.
“I will shake his hand here [if I see him]”.
United’s players seemed to target the livewire Hazard before the interval, something that did not go unnoticed by Italian Conte. Jose Mourinho’s men are defending well as only Chelsea and Tottenham conceded less than the Red Devils, but have some trouble on the other end of the pitch as they’re too dependent on Zlatan Ibrahimovic. There seemed little to dispute the yellow card shown to Phil Jones for pushing Hazard.
Superior in numbers, superior in organisation and superior in skill, Chelsea imperiously saw the game out.
Well, it could be if you go by Mourinho’s words but the fact that his team is performing in patches and has been inconsistent can’t be overlooked either.
