Chelsea: Winning run is fantastic – Conte
Chelsea‘s grip on the Premier League title race tightened today as they beat Bournemouth 3-0 for a club record 12th successive league win that took them nine points clear at the top.
ANTONIO CONTE’s side are looking unbeatable at the moment and they could bolster their ranks with some brilliant players in January.
“We are now smack bang in the middle of one of the most important periods in the season”, Nevin told Chelsea’s official website. No matter who plays up front, what the opponents need to figure out is how to breach the Chelsea defence, which just seems to be getting better and better. “Before, I had a lot of critics because we faced not so many shots and my shots-to-goals percentage was not very good”.
As for Hazard, Conte said: “It’s fantastic for me to see the great job (he) is doing with the ball, but also without the ball”.
“For me it’s important only for the table”.
A Pedro brace, in addition to Eden Hazard’s penalty early in the second half, proved too much for a plucky Cherries side, which gave their all but could not stop the hosts from winning their 12th consecutive league game.
“I don’t think it is a case of which Bournemouth side turns up, I think we have been inconsistent – our performances have shown that”. We have a big bunch of wonderful experiences together and that makes us all stronger of course. “For sure it won’t be easy”.
Given the subsequent upheaval that culminated in Conte’s appointment, it would have come as little surprise if Pedro, destabilised by the goings on, had left in the summer.
And Nevin believes the upcoming congested fixture list could determine who Chelsea will be challenging for the title.
“This player is a new player for Chelsea and to go on loan now is a defeat for the club and above all for me”, Conte said.
“The players know the principles of how we play and they are comfortable, but we need to improve”.
“They look like champions at the minute, for me at the moment they’re the best team in the league”.
Both the key players were suspended, but Chelsea still found a way to see off the challenge of Bournemouth.
“We feel good”, said the 25-year-old. “It is hard, but not impossible, and as long as it is not impossible I am ready to fight”.
The Chelsea boss doesn’t want this run of wins to end, not when the momentum is building and his team are edging away from the chasing pack at the top.
The breakthrough came at the end of a well-worked move, finished by Pedro when he curled a superb strike over Boruc from the edge of the box for his fourth goal in the last five matches at Stamford Bridge.
