Chhattisgarh police arrest goat, call it ‘repeat offender’
Nearly similar incident happened in Malegaon city of Nashik district in Maharashtra where the city police had held a donkey along with three people at was supposed to be part of a protest.
“The judge’s bungalow has an iron gate and the goat used to jump over it and enter”, said Assistant Sub Inspector R.P. Srivastava, according to NDTV.com. “I was then picked up by the police”, the goat owner said to reporters.
The Times of India reported Mr Hasan, who lives in Janakpur, India, had been given warnings about his animal entering his neighbour’s garden for more than a week before he was detained. “So today he filed a complaint and we arrested the goat and its owner”, the policeman added.
The goat was accused of grazing in Ratre’s garden and eating plants, flowers and vegetables.
Hassan and the goat were released on bail and they both face charges of criminal trespassing and mischief causing damage.
“The “arrest” of a goat is ridiculous. Chhattisgarh police has made fun of themselves by doing so”, Congress Party leader Shailesh Nitin Trivedi told The Hindu. We received a written complaint from the judge’s office on the basis of which we have registered a case. The magistrate went to the nearest police station and complained about the incident.
The goat is certainly not the first animal to be arrested in India.
On Monday, the goat was arrested and kept at the local police station.
The police did not press charges against the parrot, but handed it over to the state’s forestry department.
