Chhota Rajan now over to CBI
Underworld don Chhota Rajan has been brought to Delhi from Indonesia on Friday.
India was keen that the deportation takes place at the earliest and had put in a request to Indonesian authorities immediately after his arrest, sources said.
Nikalje, 56, was to have been deported Tuesday from Bali’s Ngurah Rai worldwide Airport, but the airport was closed because of volcanic ash from an eruption of Mount Rinjani on nearby Lombok island.
Sources in Mumbai police say that Rajan is wanted in a murder case in the UAE. Even the duo would be taken to hospital, if Chhota Rajan requires a medical check-up on account of his reportedly worsening kidney troubles.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case of criminal conspiracy, cheating, cheating by impersonation, forgery of document under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Rajan, one among India’s most needed gangsters, was arrested within the vacationer city of Bali on a Red Corner Notice issued by Interpol after eluding regulation enforcement businesses for over 20 years. “When that happens, the Mumbai police will comply with the order in a timely manner”.
Both the don and his dummy will get identical security whenever Rajan is taken from his detention centre in south Delhi, either to a hospital or a court.
He is believed to have exposed D-Company’s moles in the Maharashtra Police and passed vital information on fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim to Indian agencies.
After Vivek Oberoi who played a character inspired from underworld don Chhota Rajan, it is Abhishek Bachchan who apparently will be stepping into the shoes of the gangster who is now in news for being arrested in Bali.
Sources said a third fake passport has also been recovered from Rajan’s possession, which states the last name of his father as “Rajan”. The handing over of the 78 cases registered against Rajan, most of which are for violent crimes – is a damning commentary on the competence of the Mumbai Police. Rajan was in the custody of CBI-Interpol. This include 20 murder charges, four cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, one under Prevention of Terrorism Act and over 20 cases under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
The Mumbai Press Club has demanded a re-investigation of the Dey murder case especially with Rajan now available for interrogation. The government made an announcement within the hour during which Rajan was brought to the Bali airport from the Indonesian police lockup.
Rajan managed a dramatic escape by jumping from the first floor of the hotel, the sources said.
