Chicago Bears hand San Diego Chargers their 5th straight National Football League loss
“All my life”, Langford said, when asked how long he had waited for this. “I’m truly blessed to be in this situation”.
Rather remarkably, the Bears are now 3-0 against the AFC West this season (they host Denver in two weeks) and 0-5 against everyone else.
How else to explain two sacks in Monday night’s decisive sequence by an outside linebacker who has languished at the bottom of the Chicago Bears depth chart under coach John Fox? Bears receiver Alshon Jeffery caught 10 passes for 151 yards. Langford finished with 18 carries for 72 yards and a rushing touchdown, plus three catches for 70 yards. Rookie Jeremy Langford, subbing for the injured Matt Forte, ran in the two-point conversion. “You know. I mean, we watched him play in our own backyard, man. We had a private workout there in our indoor facility and coached him in the Senior Bowl”. I’m not excited about the fact that he’s playing really good right now this week, but I’m happy for Jay.
After all, Forte has an expiring contract.
This has been a problem for the Chargers throughout the last few seasons, and it was no different in their Week 9 matchup as they blew a 16-7 lead against the Bears.
His first TD throw of the night, to Martellus Bennett in the second quarter, was Cutler’s 138th with Chicago, breaking Hall of Famer Sid Luckman’s club record that had stood for a remarkable 65 years.
Since then, it’s been nothing but tight finishes. They’re battling their butts off and playing well, but the guys on the outside (receivers), they’re starting to come together a little bit. The play-calling seemed to open up after the pick-6 and Cutler ended up with a final line of 27/40 for 345 yards and 2 TDs including a 4th quarter strike to TE Zach Miller that ultimately won the game. He runs with lean and can gets yards after first contact.
Cutler kept his cool with the pocket collapsing. He also fired a laser down the middle of the field to have Zach Miller amazingly block it with one hand and corral it for a score.
SAN DIEGO (AP) – The San Diego Chargers are going through such bad times that Philip Rivers doesn’t want to be around a football during their bye week. Cutler has begun to show signs of maturity under this new regime, and is now looking like the unquestioned leader one would expect a franchise quarterback to be.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Nikola Mirotic had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Chicago Bulls past the winless Philadelphia 76ers, 111-88 on Monday night. Don’t overlook Chicago’s defense in this whole thing, they played a huge role in locking down the victory, weird formations and all. But against the Chargers, he had a leaping 31-yard grab.
Monday was a different story, as the Bears defense came up with the big plays when needed.
One of the more gifted – and enigmatic – quarterbacks in the league, the 32-year-old Cutler is known for his big arm and his questionable decision-making.
