Chicago Bears open to trading Matt Forte
Forte has continued to perform at a high level for the Bears, averaging 115 total yards per game through three weeks, though he’s found the end zone just once.
Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte could be traded this season as the team has started winless, and has shown no immediate signs of a turnaround, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
With the Chicago Bears in rebuilding mode, rumors have begun to swirl about the team possibly trading star running back Matt Forte, if the right deal comes along.
He also said another general manager told Rapoport that they say “basically, don’t be afraid to ask”.
Forte turns 30 next season, and he is in the final year of his contract. After the Allen trade, numerous reports came out that the team would consider trading Forte this season.
Even with that being said however, Matt Forte has carried the ball 49 times in 2015 for 276 yards and one touchdown, but you have to wonder how much of his production is being shutdown because of the turmoil on the team and running behind an offensive line that has struggled for the past couple of years.
The Bears are rumored to wanting a second or early third round pick in return for Forte, although general manager Ryan Pace hasn’t called anyone in the league declaring Forte is available.
If Forte wants to stay in Chicago beyond this season, he will have to swallow his pride and lower his price demand.
Last year the Bears had a tough season and after Cutler was benched late in the year, his future was questioned, but so far the team has not seriously looked at making a trade. But, if a team dealt for him and let him walk as a free agent, they’d land a 2017 compensatory pick – and that could actually help his value. Brandon Marshall was traded away in the offseason after he had his worst statistical season in years and now the Bears could make more moves this season. Unless Pace finds a deal that he feels is too good to pass up, Forte most likely remains on the roster and will have to negotiate a new contract after the season.
