Chicago Bears Rumors: Alshon Jeffery, Eddie Royal Out? Jay Cutler Makes
The Brown injury could cost the third round pick the rest of the season and could prove to be costly for the Rams as they go forward.
The Chicago Bears take on the St Louis Rams today in a game on the NFL football schedule which sees both teams having gotten off to poor starts which they’r still each trying to climb out of, with one team coming off a key victory and the other an overtime loss.
St. Louis Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins, left, breaks up a pass… The Bears turned that into a Robbie Gould field goal and a 17-point edge with 8:05 to play.
The Bears didn’t blow away the talented Rams defense, but they were a step ahead all afternoon. Miller caught two touchdown passes, including an 87-yard score that was Chicago’s longest play since 2010, and Langford also had two TDs, leading the Bears to a 37-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
Miller finished the game with five catches for 107 yards, and he scored another touchdown in the second quarter on a pass from Cutler in the end zone. And Miller has one huge 87 yard touchdown catch. And were it not for Ka’Deem Carey fumbling deep in Rams territory at the end of the game, the Bears would have won their first game of the year when winning the turnover battle. “So we kind of (tried) to control the game with formation stuff, tried to get the ball out quick”. “Against a front like that and a secondary like that, very rarely are you going to get a few “chunk” plays like that”. The Bears were also without their injured top running back (Matt Forte) and second-best receiver in Eddie Royal along with star linebacker Pernell McPhee.
Fox would inherit the Chicago Bears job this offseason after the organization parted ways with Marc Trestman following a 5-11 showing. The Bears defense has gone from 30th in yards per game allowed previous year to 9th at the midway point of this season and the offense is averaging 20 more yards per game. On the next play, Langford carried the ball into the end zone for a contested (by the officials) two-point conversion run.
It was a particularly tough day for quarterback Nick Foles, who completed only 17-of-36 passes for 200 yards with an interception before getting hooked on the Rams’ last drive for backup Case Keenum.
Remember, this is the guy who refused to call Cutler his starter until March, and even after that, the Bears were reportedly willing to trade him.
After beating San Diego as a 4-point underdog on Monday Night Football, Chicago is 3-5 straight up and 4-4 against the spread. You don’t see that happen against our defense, and of course the screen pass as well. Hoping Welker would improve their NFL-worst third-down conversion rate, the Rams still were 4-for-14 on third down Sunday. So, there’s a risk with going short and conservative that early up two touchdowns, but in this game, it totally paid off. His ability to get 100 or more yard receiving along with a touchdown on the ground and in the air made him just the third to do so in Bears’ history. I’ll take the fake punt, that’s on me. He has become one of Jay Cutler’s favorite targets. With 14:02 left in the game the score moved to 16-14. Even taking 150 yards, estimated, out of his stats, Cutler’s passer rating still would have been around 125.
