Chicago Bears Week 12: Takeaways
The defense helped make Thursday night a Thanksgiving to remember for the Chicago Bears.
“When you have a chance to get your hands on the football, you’ve got to take advantage of it”, McCarthy said. “So much is made of scheme”.
There was little surprise then when the Packers scheduled his retired number to be unveiled during a prime-time game on Thanksgiving before a national television audience.
Problem is it’s not clear whether the Packers could take advantage.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers finished with a lower passer rating than the opposition for the fifth consecutive game.
Chicago (5-6) has won three of its last four.
As each week passes, the window grows narrower for the Packers to get their 23rd-ranked pass offense back on track.
It goes something like this “Green 19, Green 19, oh f-ck!”
McCarthy thinks the Packers can. “This moves us in the right direction from here on out”. “It’s the attention and the details”.
“[The Bears] played a lot more two-high [safeties]”, Rodgers said.
But the voice of the Packers says the players are likely not hitting the panic button – but rather focusing on correcting the myriad of mistakes the team is struggling with.
How often will Rodgers complete just 51% of his passes in a game with 43 attempts? Bryce Callahan. He stuck with Adams in the end zone and defended Rodgers’ last desperate pass on fourth-and-goal from the 8.
After “Fourth-Quarter Porter” – his nickname courtesy of play-by-play man Jeff Joniak – intercepted Rodgers with 3 minutes, 9 seconds left, the belief grew. Chicago Bears right tackle Kyle Long couldn’t resist the temptation to rub it in after two blowout losses to the Green Bay Packers a year ago.
“He didn’t have a very good day today”, McCarthy said of Adams.
For once, Aaron Rodgers didn’t break their hearts.
Fox especially pointed to the secondary, where two starters were different than the first game against the Packers and safety Adrian Amos was starting his first National Football League game in that one.
“I mean that with all due respect”, Favre said.
Thursday, Green Bay’s defense surrendered just 290 total yards and the running game gobbled up a season-high 177 yards. Put it this way: won’t throw six touchdown passes in the first half. Meanwhile, rookie RB Jeremy Langford carried 12 times for 48 yards, a 4-yard average, with a long of 14 and a touchdown.
Robbie Gould’s 21-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for Chicago was the only scoring for either team in the second half in a game played dreary conditions. It came after a monumental 17-13 victory by the Bears over the Packers for just their second win at Lambeau Field in eight years. In fact, it was the first time that Cutler won at Lambeau field and the first time that he did not throw an interception during a game against the Packers.
Dickerson: On offense, Rob, not much has changed since Week 1. Fangio is playing guys you’ve never even heard of.
“It’s awesome. There are a lot of new faces over there, and there’s not a lot of guys from past year”.
In the early going, the Bears offense was as sloppy as the weather, picking up only one first down on their first five possessions. And he knows how to beat the Packers. “We’re 11 games in”. We’ll continue monitoring the split as Forte gets healthier and if Adam Gase tries to get both on the field together, something we didn’t see in Lambeau Field. “So, yeah, it’s something that we’ve got find a way to correct it fast”.
