Chicago Blackhawks Vs. Anaheim Ducks
With an assist on defenseman Duncan Keith’s game-tying goal against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, Kane tied an National Hockey League record for longest point streak by an American-born player with an 18 game point streak. They even dropped their gloves late in the first period, but the linesmen separated them before anybody could throw a punch.
Later in the first period, the Blackhawks received two power-play opportunities in a span of 4:35.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Blackhawks are -120 money line favorites to beat the Ducks, who are +100 money line underdogs for tonight’s game.
A minute later, Andrew Shaw took a run at Ryan Kesler and was sent to the box for slashing.
Coach Joel Quenneville kept Crawford off the ice to give the Hawks a two-man advantage and it paid off when when Marian Hossa sent a slap shot through traffic and past goalie John Gibson with 1:41 to play.
“I didn’t mind the game after about the first five minutes”, Quenneville said. With seven minutes left the Hawks made a strong push, still with little success getting pucks to the net. The speedy winger got sprung on a breakaway off plays by Cam Fowler and Carl Hagelin before beating Crawford for a quick 1-0 lead.
Patrick Kane extended his points streak to 18 games with an assist on Keith’s score, and Corey Crawford stopped 23 shots. The Hawks had scored two goals in the final two minutes of regulation in that game to force overtime, but then surrendered the game-winner 45 minutes into the extra period. Keith has scored in back-to-back games and has four goals in seven contests since returning to the lineup after missing nearly a month following knee surgery.ABOUT THE KINGS (13-8-1): Chicago and Los Angeles have alternated Stanley Cup championships over the last four seasons, one of the reasons Kings star defenseman Drew Doughty is eagerly anticipating Saturday’s matchup. The Ducks have not lived up to their lofty expectations so far, as they are now three games under. “We just found a way at the end and snuck out with the two points”. It’s time for Toews to go back to scoring goals and putting pretty passes on his teammates sticks. Where, oh where, is Dan Carcillo when you need him? Other than the second line, there has been no consistency in any facet of the Hawks offensive game this season.
“You knew they were going to come eventually”, said Gibson, who got within moments of his second shutout of the Blackhawks in two seasons. It’s hard to build consistency with so many new faces, but with points at a premium in the Central Division every single night, there is no time to waste.
