Chicago Couple Leads Group of Unsuspecting Tourists at Oscars
Insisting he was at a loss for words to help unite a divided country, Kimmel exhorted viewers to make their own efforts at reconciliation by reaching out to political adversaries they knew personally to “have a positive, considerate conversation, not as liberals or conservatives, as Americans”.
At the Oscars on Sunday evening, the Academy Award for Best Picture was read out by presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway as being for La La Land-not the actual victor, Moonlight.
Although this was the most #awkward moment at the Oscars, the La La Land handoff to Moonlight for the Best Picture Academy Award was classy and honourable.
Some “La La Land” producers got onstage and gave speeches before word got around from the stage manager that the wrong victor was called.
The host then tweeted at Trump’s account, sending him a simple,”Hey @realDonaldTrump u up?”.
At some point thereafter, Mr. Kimmel said, he noticed “Fences” star Mr. Washington in the audience trying to get his attention. After ushering his new friends away from Damon, Kimmel invited them to touch Mahershala Ali’s Oscar he just won for best supporting actor in the film, “Moonlight”. “My first instinct was to tell him to run”. That seems unlikely, but anything can happen at the Academy Awards.
He added: “I’ve watched it for years”. Eventually I figured Barry Jenkins, director of Moonlight is standing behind me, and Denzel wants me to get him to the microphone and make a speech.
The “Manchester by the Sea” producer didn’t even get chance to get his revenge as when he and their mutual pal Ben Affleck took to the stage to present an award, music began playing, putting Matt off every time he tried to speak.
During his opening monologue, Kimmel joked: ‘I want to say thank you to President Trump. “I did not pull a prank”. Kimmel chose to visit Beatty backstage after the show and figure out exactly what happened.
In what was was supposed to just be a memorable movie reunion, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway ended up fumbling the presentation of best picture, as they were apparently holding the best actress envelope instead.
Obviously, the best part of this image is not Gosling leaning in to speak to this person, it is her expression, which is such an incredible mixture of shock, terror, excitement, and confusion, made all the more poignant by the selfie stick she still has poised and at the ready.
After Kimmel introduced “Gary from Chicago” and his fiancée, Vicky, they also got a chance to shake hand with numerous celebrities in the theater, and Jennifer Anniston even gave Vicky her sunglasses.
