Chicago Man Arrested and Charged for Killing 9-Year-Old Tyshawn Lee

It’s believed that Lee was targeted and killed because of retaliation over his father’s gang ties, amid reports of other shootings between rival gangs.

Officials suspect the shootings are part of a turf war between two gangs, the Black P Stones and the Gangster Disciples.

Morgan said after his brother was shot in a gang-related shooting, he was “going to “kill grandmas, mothers and all”, Canellis said”. He vowed that gang factions involved in the killing and the other retaliatory acts had signed their own ” death warrants”.

Tyshawn was lured into an alleyway earlier this month and shot execution-style in the head and back, police said.

Court documents paint a disturbing picture of the planned attack, explaining that Morgan and his accomplices allegedly saw Tyshawn playing on the swings in a playlot with his basketball beside him.

Lee was shot in the face and the back on November 2 while on his way to play basketball down the street from his grandmother’s house.

“This murder was committed in a cold, calculated and premeditated manner”, Canellis said.

Morgan’s attorney says his client “absolutely denies” being involved.

FOX 32 News learned Morgan was re-arrested early Friday morning and charged with firs degree murder. McCarthy called on the man, whose photo was released, to turn himself in. “Tyshawn Lee was failed on many, many levels”.

The investigating officer, Sergeant William Svilar, said that, while residents were terrified of retaliation, the local community had rallied to help detectives.

“We got an terrible lot of intelligence but no snitching”, McCarthy said.

“If you have a monster who’s willing to assassinate a nine-year-old, what is that person likely to do if they know somebody is cooperating with the case?” he said.

Edwards is on the run, according to investigators, who said he is somewhere in the Chicago area. The third gang member stayed behind on the playground, prosecutors said.

Corey Morgan, who was prior viewed as a “man of enthusiasm” for the situation, was captured and accused of homicide, as indicated by Chicago Police News Affairs.
