Chicago plans $250 million in renovations at Midway Airport
The city of Chicago plans almost $250 million in improvements at Midway worldwide Airport.
The federal authorities is offering a further $10 million to insulate houses on the Southwest Aspect the place residents have been complaining about elevated jet noise from Halfway Airport, officers introduced Wednesday.
City officials said the expansion is a response to complaints from tourists and business travelers who have expressed concerns about the amenities at Midway for years.
Under the project, concessions areas, stores, and restaurants will be renovated and shopping, dining, lounge facilities, spa services, and medical services will be added.
The project will be the biggest investment at the Southwest Side airport in almost a decade, according to a statement from Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office.
“Last year, more than 21 million passengers traveled through Chicago’s Midway Airport, which provides direct access to the region for visitors and businesses”, said Durbin.
The Chicago Sun-Times posted renderings of new parking facilities and cited the mayor’s office claiming about 1,700 construction and concession jobs would be created from the new project. While we want to ensure Chicago remains at the forefront of global aviation, we also want to balance the quality of life for airport neighbors.
Officials plan to advance a proposal to the City Council for approval in the second quarter of 2016.
