Chicago Police Arrest Man For Gang Hit On 9-Year-Old
A man has been arrested and charged in the gang-related murder of a nine-year-old boy who was lured from a park into an alley earlier this month, Chicago Police said on Friday, adding that at least two others were also involved.
McCarthy previously described the November 2 killing as part of a string of violence between rival gangs on the city’s South Side that started in August. He was shot multiple times in the head and back.
McCarthy said the three men’s precise roles were still under investigation, but that all were members of the same gang.
Corey Morgan, 27, is expected to appear for a bond hearing Friday afternoon at the Leighton Criminal Court Building, according to Cook County state’s attorney spokeswoman Sally Daly.
Meanwhile, marchers are expected to gather in Chicago’s city centre to protest against the police killing of Laquan McDonald, 17, by a white police officer previous year. One of the suspects allegedly started dribbling Tyshawn’s ball, ultimately luring him into the alley where police say he was “executed”. “There was a lot of fear”. We’re definitely going to catch you, it’s just a matter of time. A series of events led up to Tyshawn’s killing, McCarthy said, including at least two other murders and a number of other shootings.
Police, who did not publicly identify the suspect, have said the crime was linked to a rivalry between Lee’s father, a suspected gang member, and another group. “Who drove the vehicle, who was on the scene, Who pulled the trigger, is all being worked on”, McCarthy said.
Police announced the arrest on Twitter early Friday, the station reported.
McCarthy expressed confidence that the unnamed man in custody won’t be released anytime soon and that authorities will find Edwards, whom they’ve been hunting for weeks. He declared, “That gang just signed its own death warrant”. Morgan was brought in for questioning but released after posting bond on a weapons charge.
One bullet cut through the boy’s right thumb, suggesting he was holding his hands out to block the gunshots, according to an autopsy report.
On Nov. 17, police arrested Morgan, a person of interest in the slaying of the fourth grader. But police don’t think Morgan was alone, saying he acted “in concert” with two others.
