Chicago police make arrest in killing of 9-year-old boy
The suspect was identified as Corey Morgan, of Chicago, by the police department.
Executed… Police believe Tyshawn Lee was killed due to his father’s gang involvement.
News of the arrest on Friday came the same day activists planned to stage a protest over the shooting death of a black teenager by a white Chicago patrolman in an incident caught on police dashboard camera.
The boy’s father, Pierre Stokes, has repeatedly denied any involvement.
Morgan has been a person of interest from the start.
Charges have been filed in the murder of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee. He was arrested two weeks later in the Chicago suburbs on an unrelated weapons violation.
Morgan was ordered held on $1 million bond, but then released when he was able to post $100,000 in cash.
At his funeral, Tyshawn was recalled as a little boy who loved basketball, school and playing video games with his cousins.
Tyshawn Lee’s body was found riddled with bullets not far from his home on Chicago’s troubled South Side on November 2.
