Chicago’s Cutler, Jeffery out vs Seattle; Clausen to start
I think Clausen will have better command of the game plan but heading into Seattle against the Seahawks defense will be a big challenge.
That means Jimmy Clausen will start at quarterback in Seattle, one of the toughest places for a visiting quarterback to play. His injury was another blow for an offense that was already missing top receiver Alshon Jeffery with his own hamstring problems.
The Chicago Bears will be without injured quarterback Jay Cutler for Sundays game at Seattle, and he is not the only one hurting. The second-round pick from 2010, who replaced Cutler when the starter was benched last season, has won just one of 11 previous games he’s started.
The Seattle Seahawks (0-2) are coming from a 27-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. The Bears may very well be the worst team in the National Football League this season, and that’s particularly true in light of the Jay Cutler injury. This year, Arizona dominated New Orleans more than the 31-19 final score would otherwise indicate, then went to Chicago and brutalized the Bears by a final score of 48-23. The Bears cornerback duo of Fuller and Alan Ball hasn’t been great, but either has the pressure up front from the linebackers and defensive line. After leading the team to three meager points in the first half, Wilson came out swinging in the second, giving the Hawks their first and only lead with two quick touchdowns.
Yes, it’s going to get uglier, we suspect, before it gets better in Chicago, even if this is a good coaching staff that could have things on the right track by season’s end.
The Bears are 5-9 in games Cutler didn’t start. We need to improve and were doing everything we can to do that.. Both teams are desperate for a victory.
The Seahawks tried moving Richard Sherman around last week, sometimes into the slot, but Burley is likely to be back in the customary position against the Bears, who have no particular receiving threat/passing threat.
“They have trust in me, I trust in them”, Palmer said. Besides Forte’s preparation, I think Adam Gase’s scheme is well suited to his running style.
Yeah, it gets pretty loud in Seattle. Cutler also has motivation to show something, with many Bears fans unable at this point to find anything redeeming about him and a limited, if non-existent, trade market for his services.
Brothers Michael and Martellus Bennett set to match up.
Here is our weekly look at what to watch as the Seahawks host the Bears Sunday at CenturyLink Field from beat reporters Jayson Jenks and Bob Condotta. If you’re in a pinch for a tight end, Gillmore is a fair add. Keep in mind though that eventually rookie Maxx Williams should also get mixed in. Marshawn Lynch had only 41 yards in 15 attempts. The Seahawks have enough effective pass rushers that double-teaming one really doesn’t insure much. “We’re not going to sit here and act like we don’t have work to do”.
