Chiefs CB Sean Smith suspended 3 games for DUI
The Kansas City Chiefs’ push toward returning to the playoffs in 2015 had a setback Friday as cornerback Sean Smith was suspended for the first three games of the regular season. Smith pleaded guilty earlier this year and received two years’ probation. Smith doesn’t plan to appeal the punishment, Rapoport adds. Smith paid fines for the DUI and the failure to present insurance, while his probation runs into March 2017. Smith admitted to driving drunk and hitting a light pole on 12th street and Grand Boulevard.
“At 6’2” and 215 pounds, Smith gives the Chiefs’ secondary a dimension that few other teams can match.
He earned back his starting job before the season opener and made 50 tackles, one interception and a career-high 16 pass deflections. But the policy allows for increased discipline for aggravating circumstances, including property damage. He is scheduled to be a free agent after this season.
