Chiefs’ Johnson leaves game vs Raiders with Achilles injury

This was the last time the Raiders and Chiefs squared off. They transform a fast game – the ball moving quickly down the field – into a slow, tedious, methodical, frustrating, sometimes boring exercise.

Oakland is now leading the AFC West at this point in the season with a 10-2 record.

Overall the Chiefs might have the better defense, getting a stop or two could be the difference here.

The Chiefs also lost defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches to back spasms in the first half, while Oakland was missing three starters at kickoff after offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele was scratched with an illness that ultimately landed him in the hospital. He has six touchdowns in the past four games.

Since TNF began 11 years ago, only two games have pitted better teams against one another: Packers (10-1) vs. Cowboys (10-1) in 2007 and Ravens (7-3) vs. 49ers (9-1) in 2011. They had one impressive drive to close out the first half, but did little else. We have a good group of guys.

The Chiefs not only won that October 16 contest in Oakland, 26-10, they dominated. I know late in my career, if you played on a Thursday, you’re going to take some soreness into the game, typically. “We have our own reality here”.

Mack was either directly or indirectly responsible for the 2 turnovers early in the 3rd quarter which gave the Raiders the opportunity to win this game. He’s had at least four catches each of the last four weeks, scoring once through the air and once on a return following a Kansas City safety against Denver.

And then there’s the issues defending Smith and the often well-prepared Chiefs offense.

Latavius Murry led the Raiders with 103 yards rushing and a touchdown. The Chiefs and Raiders over the years have asked former players to speak to the current team before games, and that helps keep the history alive. Kansas City may not be viewed as a serious contender this season, but they could end up shocking quite a few people.
