Chiefs streak into season, Chargers looking for fresh start
The Chiefs listed all other players from Friday’s practice report active for Sunday’s game. “Jamaal is probably not going to play”.
A lot is expected of this Kansas City team that won ten straight games to end last year’s regular season. This year’s team has numerous same questions that they had a year ago.
“Just really looking forward to going all the way this year, oh yeah, no doubt we are going to do it”, Ed Lewis said.
“You love the way he takes care of the football”, Chargers coach Mike McCoy said. “You think you’ve got great coverage, and all of a sudden, you’re undisciplined in the run lanes, and all of sudden, there he goes”.
Lack of production from first-round draft pick Melvin Gordon and the rest of the ground game contributed to their downfall, along with a series of razor-thin losses. The Chiefs said in a statement they made a decision to lock arms in a show of solidarity. Ware has played well against the Chargers in the past, and will get the bulk of the carries in Week 1.
“We do have some young guys”, Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said, “but you know what I’ve seen from preseason games?”
Perhaps it was a little bit of wishful thinking that Jamaal Charles would be ready to go for Week 1 after blowing out his knee five games into last season. Owners should expect Charles to be week-to-week early on this season. Houston is out for the foreseeable future following surgery to fix his own ACL in February.
To replace Doug Pederson, last year’s offensive coordinator, the Chiefs will employ two co-offensive coordinators, Brad Childress and Matt Nagy.
Spencer Ware, the one of the most popular Start’ems of the week 1 in any format, shouldn’t be scared about the Chargers defense.
Santos added his field goal, Ware added his touchdown and it was off to overtime.
One big play in the kicking game: The Chargers were underwhelming on special teams last season, and need to do a better job of creating game-changing plays in this all-important third phase of the game, especially in a hostile environment on the road.
“Four or five years ago it was regarded by many to be a weak division”.
Jeremy Maclin will be the one who catches the TD, if Smith indeed throws one, but we all know better.
Though Chiefs running back Charcandrick West eventually scored a touchdown with 1:13 left and cut the lead to 27-20, the Chiefs burned more than three minutes, effectively ending any chance of winning and leading to an offseason of criticism of both their two-minute offense and play-calling in general.
