Chiefs turn back Steelers 23-13 to snap 5-game losing streak
“For us to do that would be stupid and makes us whiners if we say, ‘Feel sorry for me because we didn’t have all of our people'”. His 19-yard touchdown in the third quarter was the 11th of his career through 12 games.
The Chiefs finally established a small cushion on the scoreboard midway through the third quarter. Will this win help get the Chiefs back on track? Do most fans even care at this point? They were minus-3 on Sunday…. “There’s a certain attitude they brought to the game”. “Too many times we were late on blitzes, including myself”. “I thought that was important”. That probably has something to do with my lack of excitement at this point.
It’s on the Chiefs defense to contain Bell and the Steelers’ running attack, much like they did a week ago against Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson. The Chiefs won 23-13.
The best part of this game is that the Chiefs stopped finding a way to lose.
On a gloriously sunny Kansas City afternoon, the Chiefs shook off the daze of the devastating Thursday night loss to Denver in Week 2 and resembled the group that many experts thought would possibly win the AFC West coming out of training camp. One of the most depressing parts of the five game losing streak was the losing mentality that seemed to envelop the entire team. They matched that number against the Chiefs.
While the two second half touchdowns were nice, the offense in the first half was still incredibly frustrating, especially in the red zone.
He missed the rest of preseason, was inactive the first two regular-season contests, then was relegated mostly to special teams in Weeks 3-6, seeing a total of two snaps on offense during that span.
Although the Steelers’ defense should get credit for helping the team stay in the game in the first half, there were still a number of concerns on that side of the ball. But he stepped forward against the Steelers and produced five tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble. “They converted necessary third downs on offense and made dynamic, game-changing plays on defense”.
Sunday’s big story of the day was turnovers, including one in the second half that had everybody in KC smiling.
Now, Jones will have a few of the best offensive weapons in the NFL. Eric Fisher moved from right to left tackle. That’s 28 seconds per play and you can not make this stuff up. Alex Smith needs a line he can count on in order to succeed and this line showed glimpses of that against the Steelers. Kudos to West and a much-maligned offensive line for getting the job done in crunch time. That is using the ball as a prop and that is a 15-yard penalty in the National Football League every single time, except Sunday. Knile Davis should only get an occasional carry while West catches his breath. Cincinnati has not been good after their bye under Marvin Lewis (just 4-7-1) and the return of Ben Roethlisberger puts another optimistic spin on the game. West on the other hand can create his own yards and that is something this offense desperately needs.
They’ll need to have more of the same mindset next week, as they’ll be tasked to shut down Calvin Johnson, Jr. and the Detroit Lions in London. Alex Smith has gone three games without an interception but hasn’t produced enough big plays and could be without leading receiver Jeremy Maclin (concussion) on Sunday.
Wide Receivers- Welcome back Antonio Brown. Against Kansas City, Archer broke off a 38-yard return and appears closer to breaking the big one.
I’m starting to be really torn about what to do with Sean Smith this offseason. What’s keeping him from seeing the field? The Steelers had a first-and-10 at the Chiefs 14-yard line and couldn’t get near the end zone. I don’t think its a coincidence that the Chiefs were spelling Hali with Dee Ford throughout the game. At Hali’s age this is a win-win situation.
Completely non Chiefs related note number one: LET’S GO ROY-ALS!
“I do as I sit here today, but I don’t know what the reaction to next week’s work is going to mean to him”, Tomlin said.
As always, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!
