Child crushed in school elevator

In a shocking incident, a five-year-old girl died after being stuck in a lift in a private school here on Tuesday, police said.

The recent report revealed Syeda Zainab, a nursery student from the Sri Chaitanya Star Kids School, entered the lift along with a group of teachers and students.

The girl child has been identified as Syeda Xanaib, a nursery student.

“The students were jostling for space and pulling each other’s bags inside the lift”.

“We got a call within a short while after dropping her at school and were told that our daughter died”, said Jaina Fatima, who did not give a family name. She accidentally got stuck in the elevator of her school situated in Dilsukh Nagar area. When the lift started moving, the child was crushed and killed instantly. “Investigation is underway”, a Malakpet police official said.

Soon after the accident, parents gathered outside the school and protested.

Principal, teacher, education department official arrested. Hyderabad East Zone DCP D Ravindra said a case has been registered and stern action will be taken against the negligent.

Police said they were investigating to find out how exactly it happened. “It is the school’s responsibility to take care of our children”, said a parent who had rushed to the school.

“The child’s father is in Dubai”.
