China Pledges Billions In Development Aid
President Xi’s speech at the United Nations headquarters was themed as “Toward Win-win Partnership for Sustainable Development”.
“The worldwide community has a duty to help developing countries with capacity building and provide them with support and assistance tailored to their actual needs”, the president noted.
On Saturday morning, Liu said Xi will attend the UN Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, where he will take part in discussions on how to promote equitable, open, innovation-driven development and put forward new initiatives for greater global cooperation on achieving the post-2015 development agenda.
Others worry, however, that harmful side effects of China’s rapid industrialization will also make their way into countries receiving Chinese aid. The better China-US relations, the more cooperation one can expect on global issues.
When it comes to China’s role in global development cooperation, President Xi said over the past 60-plus years, China has provided 166 countries and worldwide organizations with almost 400 billion yuan, and dispatched over 600 thousand workers in aiding the development of other countries.
