China probing possible violation of United Nations sanctions on N. Korea

The sanctions specifically target one individual, 27 entities, and include nine shipping companies and 28 vessels that were identified in nine locations, including North Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore. It also blacklisted 16 North shipping companies and 19 of their North Korean-flagged vessels.

Inhofe, who is traveling in the region with a contingent of congressional members, met Friday with US military personnel and their Korean counterparts in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea.

The sanctions target ships, companies and one individual involved in schemes created to evade already-existing sanctions on illicit cargo, including fuel.
As North Korea does not provide reliable economic information, it is hard to know the true state of North Korea’s economy or the impact of sanctions on the rogue regime. However, several Chinese companies were cited for busting sanctions on the latest US list.
In its announcement, the Treasury released images which it says depicts “deceptive” North Korean practices.
While the number of companies from North Korea and other nations was high, the economic impact is unclear.
