China’s high-altitude glass suspension bridge not for the faint hearted
The glass bridge is suspended 590 feet above ground.
The stomach-churning structure, which opened in September of this year, was constructed using 24 millimeter thick glass panels.
The bridge was built by a crew of 21 workers, who purportedly earned 400 yuan ($62.90) per day for their efforts.
“The steel structures beneath the bridge are incredibly dense so even if the glass gets broken, visitors won’t fall down”, he added.
Engineers in China recently completed work on a mesmerizing 980 ft. long suspension bridge primarily made out of glass.
The whole contraption hangs between two lush cliffs in Shiniuzhai National Geological Park, giving travelers an astonishing view below. The builders say that the glass panes used for the bridge is safe.
Fearless Men’s Bridge isn’t the world’s first all-glass passage.
The Grand Canyon has a horseshoe-shaped glass-bottomed walkway that curves out into the void and back, and there are also attractions like The Ledge at Chicago’s Willis Tower – a small glass balcony built into the skyscraper’s observation floor. The bridge wobbles slightly as people walk across it adding to the fear the glass bottom evokes.
