Chinese reports say man attempts to set fire on plane
A passenger attempted to damage facilities on Shenzhen Airlines flight ZH 9648, which departed from Taizhou City of east China’s Zhejiang Province, when it was landing in Guangzhou Baiyun worldwide Airport at around 1 a.m. on Sunday, according to the airport.
Civil Aviation officials said that an investigation in underway to find out the security lapse at Taizhou Luqiao Airport and the man’s possible motivation.
Two of the 95 passengers suffered injuries and were taken to hospital, the official Xinhua news agency said.
The man was arrested after crew members also intervened to stop the alleged arson attempt on a flight in China, the Civil Aviation Administration of China said.
Online photos showed burns to a passenger seat as well as a blackened cabin door, suggesting that some kind of fire had been lit. Slides were conveyed and 95 travelers and nine team individuals were cleared.
A statement from Shenzhen Airlines confirmed the incident but offered no additional details.
It was the latest in a rash of risky incidents aboard Chinese flights, including passengers opening emergency exits and fights between flyers and crew members.
