Chip Kelly acknowledges concern over DeMarco Murray’s workload

Upon entering the practice field, Eagles players took advantage of an opportunity to shake hands with a dozen or so handicapped visitors lining the indoor and outdoor exits… Reynolds gained a reputation for being a ball hawk during his junior season at Stanford, intercepting six passes, three of which he returned for touchdowns-tied for the most in the nation in 2012. One hung so long in the air Reynolds nearly had to keep himself from calling for a fair catch.

COACH KELLY: Yeah, he’s fine.

“I should have had four”, he said. But you won’t hear Shurmur or Chip Kelly say that. Tim’s just one of us. “At the same time, it’s only one game”. You’ve got to stack those days on top of each other. “We’re all going to be professional and try to get better”. The Baltimore Ravens come in, we’ve got a week to practice with them, just showing that it’s not just a one-time flash of greatness.

Spoken like a veteran.

Parkey actually was drafted in the fourth round in 2011 to replace David Akers, who played for more than a decade here despite always kicking against (or at least with) somebody in training camp.

Reynolds needed a game like this.

Reynolds last summer was the victim of an archaic NCAA rule that prohibits draft picks whose class hasn’t yet graduated from participating in minicamps and OTAs.

“He should have had three”, Maxwell corrected. The DB’s were all over the field today; Ed Reynolds, Randall Evans picking up the fumble.

Football players, even kickers, thrive on competition. He knuckled a 48-yarder through the Pattison uprights.

“I don’t think it’s a big deal”, Murray said.

But, there were some things missing from the actual game too.

“No, we are not”, Kelly said. I missed all that last year so learning the scheme and being in it for a whole year [was big]. The option component was a big part of his game. “I wouldn’t push the panic button right now”. Kelly’s decision, and his disinclination to explain his approach, created an air of mystery about Murray’s condition. Taking every rep in practice isn’t necessarily productive. Kelly said. “I mean, let’s not go insane now”.

Sound familiar? It should, because those numbers were almost identical to those of Parkey’s (88.9 percent of his field goal attempts and ideal on all 54 extra points). However, if he has designs on making the squad, his ability to play on special teams will be crucial, and on Sunday, he filled a number of different roles in that phase. Smith didn’t dominate but looked like anything but a bust. I was in the best shape of my life. They kind of would have a sense of what we were trying to do. No Sam Bradford, Kiko Alonso, Demeco Ryans, Mychal Kendricks, and no DeMarco Murray either. I wanted to have two running backs, and that’s why we got Ryan [Mathews]. At right guard, Andrew Gardner played ho-hum to finish the season and could very well be replaced by Moffitt or Tobin.
