Chipotle CEO ‘deeply sorry’ about customers who fell sick
But a series of food poisonings have now left the company struggling to regain its reputation.
According to Nbc News, City health officials have ordered the outlet of Chipotle to be closed.
Most of the sick students reported eating at a nearby Chipotle Mexican Grill.
Chipotle has closed the restaurant near Boston College while the investigation continues. After the college students got sick, health officials promptly tested for the unsafe bacteria at the Boston Chipotle location.
For years, Chipotle has touted the superior quality of its ingredients, emphasizing that its meat is organic, humanely raised, and GMO-free. But this Boston outbreak is adding to public concerns about Chipotle. The most recent case happened November 13. Cases of the bacterial illness were traced to six of the fast-casual Mexican food restaurants, but the company voluntarily closed down 43 of its locations in the two states as a precaution.
More times than not, I would recommend buying a solid industry-leading company after a temporary setback. An additional 12 who did not eat at Chipotle reported similar symptoms. “It’s a risky position for Chipotle to be in now”. City officials said a restaurant employee was sick during a shift last week. Chipotle executives previously said that the chain’s same-store sales growth would be more modest this year, as it’s up against a tough year-ago comparison. The stock is down about 20 percent this year.
“I was surprised that there wasn’t a big line – there usually is a big line”.
As he tweeted Monday, “Chipotle needs to get their act together so I can eat it again”. “There is no way we’re even considering going in there today“.
But, because “it’s impossible to test every tomato”, the chain is taking additional operational steps, Ells said.
Common symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pain. The illnesses were later confirmed to be caused by norovirus. They are highly contagious. The Taylor Farms recall has not been linked to the Chipotle outbreaks.
But as the company has grown, it’s faced limitations.
It does not matter than Chipotle serves thousands of customers daily – the only thing that investors care about is the nine states with food-related illness outbreaks. It brought in independent food safety expert Mansour Samadpour to improve its food safety practices and implemented their recommendations. The real problem is they’re playing defense.
Bill Marler, a lawyer specializing in food-borne illness who represents numerous people who have fallen ill as a result of the outbreak, said people shouldn’t assume that just because a company touts certain kinds of food that it has taken all steps to protect them from pathogens. “But I know some of my co-workers were anxious about it and they didn’t want to come here”, she said Thursday.
