Chipotle offering free burrito coupons after closing for food safety meetings
The meeting was held days after the company said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had concluded its E.coli investigation.
The company announced a slew of new food safety measures in December, which involved preparing bell peppers, tomatoes and lettuce in a central kitchen instead of its individual restaurant kitchens.
Chipotle will spend up to $10 million on an initiative to help its smaller suppliers produce safer meat and vegetables, company founder, chairman and co-CEO Steve Ells said. Moran urged employees to be “incredibly hospitable” as the company fights to win back customers.
Chipotle took a hit with stocks and sales plummeting, but customers say the temporary shutdown restores their faith in the food.
All of the burrito chain’s restaurants around the country shut down from 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. for employee food safety training.
