Chisenhall’s HR helps streaking Indians beat Braves 8-3
The Cleveland Indians have been among the league’s best teams over the last month and they will look to move to 10-1 in their last 11 contests with a win on the road against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday evening.
Lonnie Chisenhall’s three-run homer off of Tyrell Jenkins in the fourth inning gave the Indians (45-30) a 4-1 lead.
Indians vs Braves Tuesday in Atlanta – Right-hander Corey Kluber, who has won three out of his last four starts, will be on the mound for the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday when they take on Matt Wisler and the Atlanta Braves.
Mike Napoli had three hits for Cleveland, while Francisco Lindor, Tyler Naquin, Chris Gimenez and Chisenhall each contributed two.
During the third inning, Gant experienced discomfort and attempted to throw a practice pitch but left the game shortly after accompanied by a trainer, David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Jenkins got three consecutive outs and the Braves tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Nick Markakis. The only other time in team history that Cleveland has won 10 successive games by such a large combined margin was in April and May of 2001 (10-0, outscored opponents by 53 runs).
Braves catcher Tyler Flowers has just one hit in 16 career at-bats against Kluber with two walks and seven strikeouts. Right-hander Alexi Ogando was designated for assignment. There was a delay while Hunter Wendelstedt, who had been the second base umpire, put on the gear to complete the game behind the plate.
Snitker said Cabrera’s fastball was regularly timed at 99 to 101 miles per hour at MS, where he was 3-3 with a 3.21 ERA and four saves in 25 games.
Layne was staggered by the foul tip, which appeared to hit the right side of his head beyond the area covered by his mask. He has started at second base, shortstop and third base this season and was hitting.
Kluber, who is 5-2 in his last seven starts, is 10-2 with a 2.30 ERA against the National League in interleague play.
Braves starter Matt Wisler will be facing the red-hot Indians for the first time as he goes for a third straight quality start after a rough stretch.
