Chloe Moretz to star in Universal’s live-action The Little Mermaid
It looks like Chloë Grace Moretz is about to get the full mermaid experience, because the actress has been tapped to star in the live-action film for-you guessed it-The Little Mermaid.
The Hans Christian Andersen classic, best known for Disney’s 1989 cartoon adaptation, follows the life of Ariel, a mermaid with big ambition and a sobering case of leg envy, as she explores the walking world above sea level.
“Here it is!! I’ve been waiting months to tell everyone how excited I am to take on this attractive journey with Working Title, Universal, and a attractive script by Richard Curtis”, she wrote alongside a screenshot of an article from Variety, who first reported the story. Isn’t it neat? Wouldn’t you think this movie’s complete?
Executive VP of Production Erik Baiers and creative executive Chloe Yellin will oversee the project for Universal.
Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will produce the film for Working Title, Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger will executive produce project.
The actress had reportedly been a front runner for the role when Sofia Coppola was set to direct. Insiders claim that it was the studio’s insistence in casting a star like Chloe Moretz that paved the way for the director leaving the project.
Moretz, who recently starred in a remake of Stephen King’s Carrie as well as the heartbreaking drama, If I Stay, will next appear in the Zac Efron-Seth Rogen sequel, Neighbors 2, and the post-apocalyptic thriller, The 5th Wave.
