Chris Archer has great reaction to Kevin Kiermaier catch
Kiermaier somehow pulled it back into the park, which put starting pitcher Chris Archer at a loss for words.
Monday night, Rays outfielder Kevin Kiermaier caught what looked like a sure-fire home run for Baltimore Orioles’ Manny Machado. “We’re trying to win games here”.
Forsythe singled with two outs in the fourth, and Cabrera followed with his 10th home run to make it 3-0.
While Kiermaier’s play was the unrivaled highlight, the Rays did some other things worth noting in improving to 65-66 and holding ground in the American League wild-card chase. “The offense came out swinging”. The Rays send ace Chris Archer to the mound to start a critical nine-game road trip against left-hander Wei-Yin Chen.
The 25-year-old got a beat on the ball and leaped as high as he could at the fence. “But we were lucky that we did”. Logan Forsythe (.281, 57 Rs, 15 HRs, 53 RBIs, 9 SBs) has been successful at the plate for the Rays, going 3 for 4 yesterday with two runs. This will be the fifth time Chen has thrown against Tampa Bay this season, he’s yet to give up four runs in any of those starts. He allowed four hits, struck out six and walked three. The reaction of Chris Archer might be the best part.
Chen (8-7) pitched well in the first three innings, but everything fell apart after that.
Brad Boxberger, the third Rays reliever, worked the ninth for his 33rd save.
Kiermaier was later forced to leave the game with a mild ankle strain.
Machado is 6-for-16 in his career against Archer. “I’ve been playing that my whole life”. It was fun to make a play like that. The Baltimore Orioles have lost five straight home games.
“Oh yeah, definitely”, shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera said.
The inning began when Joey Butler dropped a line drive in left field by Steve Clevenger.
Evan Longoria, the next batter, made it 5-0 with his 15th homer of the year and 199th of his career.
The Orioles finished with eight hits but stranded 11.
“Manny was really energized by the opportunity”, Showalter said.
