Chris Bosh resumes taking blood thinners
Bosh is expected to meet with doctors Thursday to determine the severity of the clotting and potential remedies, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo’s The Vertical.
Miami Heat All-Star big man Chris Bosh is in jeopardy of not playing for the remainder of the National Basketball Association regular season and beyond after being placed back on medication to treat a new blood clot in his left leg, multiple reports have indicated.
Bosh began the medication regimen in recent days after the clot was diagnosed and has hopes that he can continue playing at some point this season, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Tuesday. “As an athlete, we try to keep going with some things, treating it”, Bosh said Saturday.
Bosh’s condition previous year was diagnosed as a pulmonary embolism, which is a clot that breaks free, typically from veins in the legs or pelvis, and travels to the lungs, where it might block blood flow and force the heart to work harder.
Bosh missed a large portion of last season with blood clot issue that was discovered while he was dealing with a calf strain. This time, the diagnosis apparently came far quicker.
“I couldn’t walk anywhere”, Bosh said in September, describing how the clot affected him.
“The problem is if you’re on blood thinners and have trauma, say you get hit in the head, that could end up being fatal or disabling”, Myerburg said. “You’ve giving up some benefit to reduce the risk of bleeding in someone who has already had a pulmonary embolism”. Bosh was in Toronto for the All-Star weekend before he was replaced on the East team Friday.
“I made that decision long before I was sitting here”, Vickers said Tuesday at NASCAR media day. “That’s really what the campaign is about”.
After the clot last season was found, Bosh started taking blood thinner for several months as part of his recovery. Now, fears have risen that another blood clot has formed in that same calf, potentially putting not just Bosh’s season, but his career, in jeopardy. Bosh remained in Toronto to cheer on his Eastern Conference teammates, then returned to Miami to start seriously weighing options.
The Heat have declined comment, with the team not scheduled to resume practice after their All-Star break until today at AmericanAirlines Arena.
