Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina suspend presidential campaigns
Bernie Sanders, a self-described socialist, won the Democratic race with more votes than any other candidate and spent efficiently.
Reached Wednesday in Manchester, New Hampshire, Vero Beach Republican and Indian River County Tax Collector Carole Jean Jordan said Bush heads to the next GOP presidential primary in SC with momentum and a “great ground team”. Considering Hillary Clinton was once the favorite to secure the Democratic nomination, the news is sure to come as a shock to her. That being said, there’s still plenty of Clinton supporting states that the former Secretary of State and First Lady will help secure her nomination.
A major problem for the Republicans is that away from the party primaries, Trump’s support is much less broad – particularly among Hispanic and black voters.
“I have won both elections that I was supposed to lose and I have lost elections that I was supposed to win”, Christie said on Tuesday night. The candidate came in at second-to-last in the most recent New Hampshire primary but has, however, confirmed that he intends to remain in the race for now.
Rubio is stepping up his attacks after being widely mocked for repeating the same talking point multiple times – even as Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey (R) ripped him for doing so. Since he has so far barely been a blip in the national polls, Kasich’s victory is rather surprising – especially because he seems to appeal to the demographic completely opposite to the one that voted for Trump.
“We leave New Hampshire tonight without an ounce of regret”, he said.
Cruz told the Mike Gallagher radio show on Wednesday that “South Carolina is going to play a key role in choosing whether the Republican nominee is a proven conservative or simply a candidate who talks the talk on the trail but hasn’t walked the walk”. Also, New Hampshire is largely white, so her strength with minority voters was not a factor.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Christie put their bets on New Hampshire, and Kasich managed a second-place finish.
In a state where Christie had invested the bulk of his resources, his lackluster finish in New Hampshire was effectively the nail in the coffin for his presidential aspirations, Mashable reports. Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio will battle along with Kasich to be the establishment candidate to face down Ted Cruz and Donald Trump.
Bush told CNN on Wednesday he’s better prepared in SC than Kasich.
Trump, Cruz and Rubio all have expansive organizations in SC and several Super Tuesday states.
