Chris Christie compares handling blizzard to dealing with ISIS
The New Jersey governor decided on Friday to cancel his weekend campaign events in New Hampshire and return to his home state for the impending blizzard.
Chris Christie made his way back to New Hampshire Sunday afternoon after a brief trip back home to address his state’s snowstorm.
“We’ll see how conditions look like after the day tomorrow”.
At a watch party for the New England Patriots-Denver Broncos AFC championship game later Sunday in Hampton Falls, N.H., Christie told guests that he got “advice on all sides” on whether to stay on the campaign trail or go back to New Jersey.
Many voters said they were still undecided, but some said hearing Christie had swayed them in his favor.
NewarkInc.com editor Mark J. Bonamo says Governor Christie’s presidential ambitions have brought his rhetoric back home to Newark.
“That shows a real immaturity from Sen”.
“I was in my waders in three feet of water and my friend is saying Gov. Christie is on TV saying it’s not that bad”, Maggie Day, owner of Nesting children’s boutique on Third Avenue of Stone Harbor, told Philly.com this weekend.
To be sure, most presidential candidates, including Christie, are rampin up their time taking private air travel instead of commercial flights as their campaign responsibilities kick into higher gear.
His decision came after his neighbor to the northeast, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, said Christie was making a mistake.
Christie has delegated virtually all of his office’s public activities to the lieutenant governor, Kim Guadagno, who has played an increasingly prominent role even when her boss is in New Jersey.
Christie held a briefing with his Cabinet Friday night and then a news conference, in which he told people to be smart and stay off roadways on Saturday. “But what I also said at the time was when I had enough information to make a decision I was comfortable with, I’d make a decision”.
A coastal flood warning has been issued for Delaware, New Jersey and the southern coast of Long Island.
New Jersey is one of nine states that has declared a state of emergency because of the storm. He said it could be 72 hours before officials will know if New Jersey qualifies for federal aid.
“We know how to do it. We’re pretty experienced at it”, Christie said.
Roberts faulted the Democrats who control the State Senate for failing to confirm several of Christie’s nominees to fill those positions permanently.
