Chris Christie endorses Donald Trump
“I will lend my support between now and November every way that I can for Donald to make the campaign an even better campaign than it’s already been”, said Gov. Christie on Friday.
Christie also chided Rubio for his attacks on Trump.
“I’m not disappointed but I’m surprised… because I figured that Gov. Christie would probably not participate in the campaign at this point”, Baker added.
Shortly after news of the endorsement surfaced, many were speculating that Christie could be Trump’s vice president nomination.
The men were warm toward each other on Friday, but Christie hadn’t been shy in criticizing Trump when he was in the race. Rubio and Ted Cruz, of Texas were tied in second with 20 percent, according to the poll, which was conducted between February 22 and February 24. “He has been a good and loyal friend to our family”, Christie said.
Senior Rubio aide Todd Harris poked fun at Trump for the endorsement.
“I had a special relationship with Governor Christie because he had helped me so much in my race”, Hogan said.
“I was Donald Trump before Donald Trump became popular”.
Republican presidential candidate, Sen.
Mr. Trump stated, “It is my great honor to receive the endorsement of the Governor”.
“It doesn’t change anything for us”, Kasich campaign spokesman Chris Schrimpf said. “Seems like a nightmare for Rubio, though”.
Clearly, Donald Trump doesn’t need the donors – although it’s not clear why Christie picked Rubio to receive the list after wiping the floor with him during the February 6 debate. “The fact of the matter is Senator Rubio has shown himself…to be unwholly prepared to be president of the United States”.
Christie said at a news conference in Fort Worth that Trump “will do what needs to be done to protect the American people”. When asked if he would accept an appointment, Christie said he hadn’t been offered a position and won’t speculate.
“He wanted some more days to think about it. He made a decision to go with Trump….”
“This Chris Christie endorsement of Trump is real signal to GOP establishment that they had better begin thinking about Trump as the future”, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich tweeted Friday.
“It’s like Romney says about Trump and taxes”.
“He left me a message saying, ‘I want to talk to you, ‘” Hogan said after transportation event in Prince Fredrick.
