Chris Christie tells Jimmy Fallon he might go nuclear during Tonight Show
If Gov. Chris Christie is discouraged by the state of his presidential campaign, he wasn’t letting it show with Jimmy Fallon last night.
During the interview, Fallon, who often jokes about Christie during his monologue, pressed the famously brash governor, suggesting that he’s been overshadowed by billionaire businessman and Republican front-runner Donald Trump. “We’ll see what happens”. He asked whether Christie was supposed to interrupt his rivals.
“Me, too”, Christie quipped, noting at one point he went 20 questions without being called on.
Fallon turned the conversation to the second Republican presidential debate scheduled for September 16.
There was no dancing this time around (although Christie briefly lip-synced to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in The USA”).
“He’s like, ‘OK let’s go for ice cream, ‘” Christie said of Romney, then shrugged, “Alright”.
“Donald Trump now is in the lead in all these polls”.
The governor responded, sarcastically, “Oh no, I completely expected that, didn’t you?” “You do at least to me when you come on my show, so I assumed, but that’s his thing now and it seems that people are eating it up”. “Everything he does is fabulous, spectacular, wonderful, incredible!”
‘Now Trump is running and boy is he just going out and he’s yelling and saying stuff.
The New Jersey governor also shared a story from his stay at Mitt Romney’s lakeside home in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, over the Fourth of July weekend, during which he was accompanied by fellow 2016 GOP presidential candidate Marco Rubio and his family.
Christie jokingly stormed off the stage. “If I ever leave public life, you’re going to have to hire two writers just to replace the garbage you say about me”, Christie told Fallon.
The Republican trio suddenly realized they hadn’t brought money for the trip, and the well-heeled Romney reached into his wallet to find only $20.
But Christie said he didn’t think that was the right thing to do.
He then switched to what sounded like a fake Trump voice.
“Don’t worry, would-be presidents, I have it handled”.
At one point during the light-hearted interview, Christie pretended to walk off set when Fallon made a fat joke.
