Chris Columbus wants to direct another Harry Potter film
Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter movies, isn’t most people, though. But he’s not necessarily interested in something like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Chatting to Entertainment Weekly radio, he said that “I would love to go back and do another one”. Im just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead.
The final film ended with a flash-forward 19 years later that showed the characters grown-up and distinguished, which gave the fans a sense of closure for the story, but also raised countless questions as to their fate. When he saw the epilogue, he realized that there were probably 19 years worth of wonderful adventures that these crusty geezers went on, and he wants to be the one to tell those stories. It doesn’t change the fact that at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, we see Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ginny (Bonnie Wright), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint), all grown up, at Platform 9 3/4, sending their kids off to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
We’d be surprised on two levels if this happened. The director went on to express his interest in what could have happened after the monumental defeat of the Dark Lord as well as how the lives of everyone’s favorite Hogwarts characters turned out. Hopefully [J.K. Rowling] will maybe think about doing that.
While many fans would likely love to hear word of a sequel to the Harry Potter films, I’m sure most, if not all, would prefer it if the story were being written – or at the very least, developed by – J.K. Rowling herself. I know I’d be a lot less enthused about a Harry Potter sequel if J.K. Rowling weren’t directly involved in the story.
The film, which will be directed by David Yates, who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” movies, is set for a November 2016 release.
Do you think that they should make a sequel with Harry, Hermione, and Ron?
