Chris Evans trying to ‘move on’ after quitting Top Gear
The presenter acknowledged the furore on Tuesday morning and told listeners: “Today’s show is dedicated to all of the Top Gear gang and the show is entitled: Breathe In Breathe Out, Move On”.
However, TBI understands season 24 is already in pre-production at the UK’s pubcaster, with the remaining presenting line up – Matt LeBlanc, Sabine Schmidt, Chris Harris, Rory Reid and Eddie Jordan – returning.
“I have never worked with a more committed and drive team than the team I worked with over the last twelve months”, he said. He also said he will always remain a fan of Top Gear. Evans has of course denied and commented on his other works, including presenting BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show, saying those will continue as before.
Evans’ resignation comes after “Top Gear” hit a series low on Sunday night with the season closer drawn an average of 1.9 million viewers. “The Sun, “The end for flop Chris – Geario”, and The Telegraph, “Evans” Top Gear journey at an end'”. “He says he gave it his best shot doing everything he could to make the show a success”.
Heat Street, a news website, reported in May that a former colleague of Evans had complained that the Top Gear presenter exposed himself to her, and grabbed her breasts.
Co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond followed Clarkson, stating that the show wouldn’t ever be the same if they were split up.
Evans did not cite a cause for his departure after weeks of insisting that everything was going smoothly, but his decision is seen as his own acceptance that he was not a good fit for the show.
Top Gear has been marred with problems ever since filming began previous year.
Could Matt be the new lone host?
After the recent series was released, Chris Evans was soon inflicted by viewers for his roaring presentation style and also for emulating his legendary predecessor, Jeremy Clarkson, who could be considered to be the standalone force behind the show’s astonishing popularity across the globe.
