Chris Petersen declines to elaborate on Ukwuachu situation

Neither Briles nor Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw could be reached immediately to respond to Petersen’s comments later Friday.

Ultimately, she said she transferred to another school in Texas to avoid the possibility of randomly running into Ukwuachu on campus.

The only fact we do know is that Ukwuachu habitually abused his girlfriend at Boise and raped a girl at Baylor. It is unclear if Broncos coaches knew about those allegations.

Following Ukwuachu’s conviction, Baylor released a statement that “acts of sexual violence contradict every value Baylor University upholds as a caring Christian community”. “In our discussion, he did not disclose that there had been violence toward women, but he did tell me of a rocky relationship with his girlfriend which contributed to (Ukwuachu’s) depression”, Briles said. “Lord, no. No, there’s no truth”, Briles said.

Briles has found some success at Baylor welcoming players who have had problems at other programs, most notably star defensive end Shawn Oakman, who was dismissed at Penn State for a violation of team rules and transferred to the Bears.
