Chrissy Teigan reveals battle with postnatal depression
It was a long time before the brunette visited her GP who eventually diagnosed Chrissy with postpartum depression.
Teigen welcomed her first child, Luna, with husband John Legend last April.
The model and cookery writer opened up about her battle with the disease for the first time in a candid essay for Glamour magazine, saying that she’d been “unhappy” for much of the previous year.
After her diagnosis, Teigen says she was hesitant to open up about her secret, even though she is known for sharing everything on social media, where she has almost 15 million followers combined on Twitter and Instagram. Adele has also spoken out about her own postpartum struggles, telling Vanity Fair in 2016 that she “had really bad postpartum depression” after I she had her son Angelo, and it “frightened” her.
‘I also just didn’t think it could happen to me, ‘ she says. “How can I feel this way when everything is so great?”
“I couldn’t figure out why I was so unhappy”, she writes in the April (17) issue of U.S. Glamour magazine. But despite how open the supermodel is, she’s kept her postpartum depression a secret.
‘I couldn’t control it. And yet, for much of the a year ago, I felt unhappy.
Teigen left her house only for work, and at home she barely left the couch, even when it was time for bed. Most importantly, she knew she had to find a way to start to get better so she could be as involved as possible in her daughter’s life as the baby – nearly a year old now! – continues to grow up. Of waking up throughout the night.
The Twitter personality, who certainly has not dialled down her fire takes on everything from USA politics to her pizza orders during this period, thanked Legend for his support. I’m over a month into taking my antidepressant, and I just got the name of a therapist who I am planning to start seeing. Henderson suggests that if your symptoms do not fade after two weeks following birth, or they begin to make it hard to take care of your baby or complete daily tasks, then it may be time to see a doctor.

Chrissy, who married John in 2013, initially did not want to tell friends, but writes that she felt they “deserved” an explanation for her personality changes. “My favorite video of Luna”, Teigen says, was filmed while “we were in Italy”.
Reflecting on her post-birth emotions, Teigen said that although she has “everything [she] needed to be happy” she was not. Sometimes I still do, ‘ she says.
