Christian Benteke’s agent rejects Liverpool exit rumours
Christian Benteke is ready to stay and fight for his place at Liverpool.
The Belgian is expected to leave Liverpool, but so far an exit has not been secured.
However, after returning only nine English top-flight goals in 29 appearances last season, Benteke is arguably no longer worth what he was last summer, hence Palace and West Ham’s reticence to meet Liverpool’s asking price.
Liverpool striker Christian Benteke has reportedly agreed terms with Crystal Palace, even though a fee has not yet been agreed.
According to Sky Sports, Benteke’s representative, Kismet Eris, has told them there is “nothing” in the reports claiming his client is on the brink of leaving the Reds.
The striker completed a £32.5 million move from a now relegated Aston Villa in 2015 to become former boss Brendan Rodgers’ marquee signing of the summer.
The 25-year-old endured a hard first season at Anfield, making just 14 starts in the Premier League and only three after the turn of the year.
But he also admitted in June that he might have to consider his future and it would “be hard to stay” if he was not in Klopp’s plans.
Whether he could do that though is debatable, with Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and now Danny Ings all ahead of him in the pecking order.
The Belgian forward certainly didn’t enjoy his debut campaign with Liverpool, having miserably failed to live up to the heavy price tag that got him to Anfield.
