Christian Benteke will fit Liverpool’s style of play – Brendan Rodgers
After moving to Liverpool from Manchester City on a free transfer earlier in the summer, midfielder James Milner is confident that he’ll be at his best in a central role, and that his new side have what it takes to get back into the Champions League places.
Having played a big part in Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the Far-East, Milner commented that he had “settled in quickly” and that the games against True Thai All Stars, Brisbane Roar, Adelaide United and a Malaysia XI had given Liverpool “some good tests and helped build up fitness”.
Whilst Origi’s target of winning the league sounds good, at the moment, considering where the Reds are, it is very unlikely. “I played at City in different positions”.
“I think first and foremost his goals, if you look at his goals record since the time that he’s been in the Premier League he’s up there with the best in terms of numbers”.
Will Jordon Ibe be a big asset for Liverpool next season?
“This is a chance for me to prove something“, he said.
“That doesn’t mean I am guaranteed to play in every game at Liverpool but I feel I have a better chance of playing every week if I perform“.
Milner, a Premier League victor in both 2012 and 2014, was used in a variety of positions during his five-year stint at the Etihad Stadium and many previous managers have felt his industrious style is perhaps best utilised down the flanks or even at full-back. While, on one hand Rodgers teams are known for their short passing coupled with quick movement, the Belgian is known for his aerial abilities and hold-up play, and Rodgers feel this exact quality of his would help complement his team. “I want to play in central midfield and I think that is my best position”.
“I think there were times at City when I had good games and then because of rotation you are out again“.
“But I think the move to come to here and take that mantle on myself was more of a selfish move and hopefully I can contribute to success at Liverpool”.
The England global insists there is no reason why Liverpool can’t return to the top-four this season despite the strong competition they will face, and said he and his teammates will give everything they can to make that happen.
“Liverpool almost won the title two years ago so it’s not that much of a closed shop”.
Lallana, meanwhile, says Ibe will be a great asset for them in their upcoming Premier League campaign.
“The players we have brought in are experienced and successful”.
“So to stay or to move was always going to be a tough decision but I think that once I had spoken to the manager here – the football club itself doesn’t need too much selling”.
