Christian McCaffrey destroyed USC, broke Barry Sanders’ record, and sent
He finished the night with 461 all-purpose yards – a Pac-12 Football Championship Game record, a Stanford single-game record (breaking Glyn Milburn’s 1990 record of 379 by nearly 100), and a personal best for McCaffrey.
It took McCaffrey 13 games to set his record, where Sanders only had 11, and he’ll have a bowl game to further it.
The only reason the Trojans don’t fail this portion of class is because McCaffrey is a Heisman candidate at running back. “I know (Sanders) did it in a couple less games (11)”.
“What I take away from it is as a bunch of players coming together as a team, coming together as a family”, said Helton. “So to have my name mentioned even in the same category as him is definitely an honor.”. Christian McCaffrey did it all in a record-setting performance that should send him to NY for the Heisman Trophy ceremony and Stanford to a third Rose Bowl in four years. At the end of the day, Stanford got the win over USC, 41-22. The last time Troy played in the “Grandaddy of Them All” was back in 2009 under Pete Caroll, an era that seems like forever ago to the USC faithful.
That something is a USC culture that has changed such that, in the end, the Trojans were really beaten by only three plays against a much more complete team. “It’s not even a debate”.
His team owned the first half but led only 13-3 at the break.

Knowing his team is unlikely to make the four-team national playoff, Shaw said he expects the playoff field to expand to eight teams at some point. When Stanford got down the field and close to scoring again, they went for it on fourth down, only to get stuffed and give new life to the Trojans.
But McCaffrey set up a touchdown with a long catch-and run and the Cardinal pushed the lead to 11 points when linebacker Blake Martinez hit Kessler from behind and knocked the ball loose. In fact, the Cardinal did not punt in the first half, getting their only touchdown when McCaffey took a lateral on a reverse and then flipped a touchdown pass to quarterback Kevin Hogan. I love this team.
USC still held the Cardinal to one touchdown and two field goals and trailed only 13-3 at halftime.
McCaffrey had 93 rushing yards after the first quarter (USC had 17 yards total) and then threw the touchdown pass to Hogan on a reverse on the first play of the second quarter.
Many feel Haden, having formally given the permanent coaching job to Helton last week, should give up his stressful position to serve in a more statesman-like capacity, such as running the Coliseum renovations.
ST. THOMAS 38, WABASH 7: In St. Paul, Minnesota, Mason Zurek had the only Wabash touchdown – from 4 yards out – but it was after the Little Giants had fallen behind by 38 points in the quarterfinals of the NCAA’s Division III quarterfinals. McCaffrey slammed the door with another big reception, a 28-yarder for a score. “You know JuJu, we know he’s not one hundred percent”.
“I think I was just able to – I was put in a bunch of situations to be successful, I think”, McCaffrey said. The heady play by both defensive stalwarts sparked a huge momentum shift as Stanford extended it’s lead to 27-16 heading into the fourth quarter.
