Christie calls Cruz speech ‘awful’ and ‘selfish’
In a tweet after the convention adjourned for the night, Trump wrote that Cruz broke a promise they both had made to endorse the party’s White House choice.
Anybody hoping for a moment of healing and unification in the GOP when Ted Cruz took the stage at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night is now sorely disappointed.
Small business owner Michelle Van Etten began her speech with an anecdote about her own early entrepreneurial skills. Many delegates, including loud exhortations from the NY delegation, began chanting, “Endorse Trump!”

“He’s a man known for his large personality, his colorful style, and his charisma – and, well, I guess he was looking for someone to balance the ticket”, Pence said, laughing.
“You have nominated a man for president who never quits”, Pence said.
Delegates cheered: “We like Mike!”
Cruz is a sour ideologue who would make a awful president. “Until now he’s done it all by himself, against all odds. But this week with this united party, he’s got backup!” He’s the genuine article.
The headline from Cruz’s speech: he didn’t endorse Donald Trump and he was booed as he walked off the stage.
In a statement issued by the campaign, McIver said Mrs. Trump had told her that she admired Mrs. Obama, and had read passages from Obama’s speech as an example of things she liked.
Cruz, according to Gingrich, “said you can vote your conscience for anyone who will uphold the Constitution”.
The Hill newspaper grabbed longtime Donald Trump ally, political consultant and Miami resident Roger Stone as Stone was leaving Quicken Loans Arena. “But I think we’re at a place in our country’s evolution where it’s particularly important now, with all that’s happened and the concerns that people have, for a positive vision to be laid out”.
“Vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and be faithful to the Constitution”, Cruz said.

Cruz – who is widely expected to run in 2020 should Trump lose to Hillary Clinton – was forced to wave and smile before completing his remarks and exiting to more jeers.
“For all the world he reminds me of Ronald Reagan”, Pence said. “The consequences are too great”.
Trump congratulates his running mate, Pence, after his speech.
“After a long and spirited primary, the time for fighting is over”, he said. “My fellow conservatives, it’s time for us to come together. It’s time to win in November”, Rubio said. When it became clear that this was as close as he was going to get to an endorsement, the restive audience turned to angry: “We want Trump!”
Maybe Cruz’s move was cynical, calculated to set him up to be a leader in rebuilding the party after Trump flames out in November – if Trump flames out in November.
“None of us could have predicted the records he would break, the stadiums he would fill, the movement he would start”, Eric Trump said. “He stands before you with the most primary votes of any candidate in history”.
