Chromecast Audio Brings Music Streaming to Existing Speakers, Price set for $35
SAN FRANCISCO-Besides launching a pair of smartphones today, Google is also launching a pair of streaming devices.
Alongside the new Chromecast 2 media streamer, Google has also announced its Chromecast Audio dongle.
The new Chromecast is functionally identical to the original, but it has updated internals and a new design. The new device, apparently has 3 antennae for optimized Wi-Fi streaming while the original Chromecast only had one. The first was just called the new Chromecast while the other was the Chromecast Audio.
A few of the apps that Chromecast Audio perfectly works with are Pandora, Google Play Music and Spotify.
The new Chromecast is still tiny which can be easily hidden at the back of a TV. You can now let the smartphone do all the “heavy lifting” as it fires-up the TV screen and it’s own screen.
The new Chromecast also boasts a number of software improvements.
The Chromecast app is completely redesigned and is now available in Google Play and iTunes.
Google’s new approach enables universal voice and text search, displaying content results from all manner of connected apps.
Mentioned in a different part of Google’s presentation was Chromecast’s support for Google Photos now.
The new Chromecast for TV still works with WiFi to “cast” TV shows, movies, music, games and more from your iOS and Android devices, as well as your Mac and Windows laptop and Chromebook. Like a Sonos speaker systems, it can connect with your speakers to apps on your phones and laptops through the Internet. No longer will you have to stream through the TV as you can now use the magic of Wi-Fi and a tiny cable to send your sounds straight to the speaker. Down the line, the device will also support multi-room audio, so you’ll be able to play tunes across your entire home. Aside from Google Music, you can also use Spotify for your music streaming and it will allow multiple users at once, meaning you can skip your songs and move to your friend’s playlist.
