Church bans 92-year-old woman from attending service for not paying tithes
Gerald Simmons reads over the letter addressed to Josephine King, his 92-year-old aunt, “Josephine King is no longer considered a member of the First African Baptist Church of Bainbridge, Georgia”. She got a letter from church officials, signed by Senior Pastor Derrick Mike, saying she was “no longer considered a member” because she did not adhere to “constant and consistent financial and physical participation”. “It’s about God. You have to put God first”, Simmons disclosed. “If that’s the case, you’re money hungry”, said Simmons. He added his aunt had gone above and beyond, over the years, to financially support the church.
“You shouldn’t chase the individuals down, you shouldn’t do that”. She is the first person to be removed for not tithing.
A Georgia church has been accused of getting rid of a female parishioner because the woman was not paying tithes.
Ninety-two-year-old Josephine King told Fox6 she received a letter from her church indicating that she should no longer attend because she wasn’t tithing.
According to WALB, King discovered that she was kicked out of the church after receiving a letter from Sr.
WALB said it has tried to reach the church for comment, but their calls have not been returned. The church’s controversial policy has led to the removal of other members as well. She aired out her frustrations on Facebook and wrote: “What Church does this… why would I want to go to a church that everybody talks about everybody….”
